Sep. 23rd Event: Logistics Challenge 2021 – Current Situation & Outlook in the Global and China Shipping Industry

With the recent COVID related disruptions easing, the Logistics Challenge 2021, one of the biggest threats to the global economic recovery, comes back into everybody’s focus.

Freight rates are setting new records every week, ports are shut by virus cases, containers are in substantial shortage, incoming shipments are stuck on vessels that cannot be unloaded and the upcoming Christmas season has finished products, ready for export, sitting in warehouses and ports.

Commodity product distributors for products such as tires, babystroller or electronic goods cannot pass logistic cost hikes on to the end-users and are loosing business share in overseas markets.

For our upcoming event, WuxiCham has teamed up with a globally leading logistics firm, Duisport and Kunyue Logistics to shed more light on the current logistics situation.

Our three industry experts will update us on the global logistics situation, on the status of local logistics and on the rail connection to Europe as an alternative channel for customers.

Lance Lu of OOCL China will kick off the evening with a presentation on the “Current Status and Outlook for Regional and Global Logistic Markets”.

Lance has more than 20 years experience in logistics, covering Ocean Freight, NVOCC, Contract Logistics & International Supply Chain end to end solutions. He specialized in chemical, retails, FMCG industry and is familiar with the recent digitalization development.

Following the Keynote presentation, Cloud Jiang, Vice GM and Manager of overseas business department of Kunyue Logistics will update us on the local logistic markets.

In his presentation, Cloud will give us more insights on current challenges for domestic transport such as changing COVID regulations, environmental measures, shortage of containers, growing need for special transport, aging truck drivers and growing labor cost.

To round off the presentations, we will look at rail logistic, that has become an alternative on the new silk route and for deliveries to and from Europe.

Daniel Conrad, Sales Director and Guanzhe Cao of Duisport, the operator of rail logistics between Europe and China, will give us further insights into this alternative transport channel to/from Europe. What is the current status, what are the capacities and possibilities, what are constraints and options for using the rail channel, what are the difficulties openly. They will give us advice on necessary packaging, container stowage, customs matters, the delivery to end-users and other aspects to take into consideration and answer related questions.

Following the presentations, we will round off our events with discussions over a drinks and a joint dinner.

Our event will take place at the Ascott in Central Wuxi where we will organize a set meal during the event and the first drink included in the entry price.

How PV companies take actions towards carbon neutrality
Vincent  CAO (VP Global Sales, SUNTECH)
Synopsis: The global warming over the past years has caused a series of disasters including rising sea levels, extinction of species and extreme weather, which have greatly affected the ecological environment. When the problems are gradually taken seriously, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Paris Agreement, and other climate-related conventions have been introduced, and the promotion of sustainable development has become a global consensus. As a a famous PV manufacturer in the world, Suntech actively contributes to the development of clean energy, accelerates the global decarbonisation process and offers more strength to global sustainable development.

Environmental Challenges and Compliance in China – A Legal and Tax Perspective
Tommaso COLLI (General Manager, PHC Advisory)
Synopsis: The presentation will touch upon when the EP tax is due, how it is determined and calculated, what are the potential tax reliefs and how to claim them, how the tax is collected by the government, and finally the supplementary provisions related to incorrect calculations and violations of the EPT law. Further, general environmental legislative evolvement, policy and enforcement tendency after COVID-19, and environmental compliance management for MNCs will be introduced.

Gaspard LEMOINE-SCELLES (China Industrial Business Development Manager, TERAO Asia)
Synopsis: Most industrial asset owners in China are now facing growing pressure from both their headquarters and local authorities to become more sustainable, on both existing assets & when planning, designing, and building new assets. Sebastian PETRETSCHEK (General Manager and Global Head PV Power Plants, TÜV Rheinland)

Maintenance 4.0 at the heart of the Sustainable Plant
Bruno LHOPITEAU (General Manager, Siveco China)
Synopsis: Green building certifications have expanded from design to operation, as buildings seldom perform as designed if not maintained well. Government investigations show that poor maintenance, improper technical decisions are the source of most environmental or safety accidents. Predictive Maintenance is often claimed to be the “low handing fruit” of Industry 4.0, yet it is seldom implemented beyond a showcase. Toyota famously put Preventive Maintenance at the center of what later became World Class Manufacturing or Lean, yet in most plants, maintenance comes last. The improvement potential is enormous!
